  • Corbels
Corbels have long been an integral part of architecture. Throughout the centuries, these subtle and yet very strong architectural components lend their support to extruding surfaces, giving these surfaces the much needed ability to bear weight. Corbels get their name from the Old French word based on the Latin "corvellus." Corvellus is Latin for "raven," which indicates that corbels are named for their beak-like shape. While these much needed components were originally made from concrete or stone, the Victorian Era ushered in the concept of wooden corbels. Able to be made much smaller than their stone counterparts, this allowed for the use of corbels to spread from the libraries and cathedrals, into smaller community buildings and even an individual's home, while allowing for another transition. Originally, corbels were primarily a creature of function. Though often still made with artistry in mind, they were mainly an invention born of necessity. With the advent of wooden corbels, design became a primary feature. Instead of structural corbels that were also decorative, the focus changed. Now corbels were seen as mainly decorative, though also structural.

  • Cabinet & Funiture Feet
Furniture feet can include everything from turned legs to bun feet and chair legs. During the Victorian period, furniture legs and furniture feet were discretely hidden by tapestry. It was the finest fabric used to hide parts that people of that time actually associated with human anatomy. While to today's mind such thoughts are preposterous, during this period of history virtue was so extolled that no extent of protective care of the minds of men would be considered extreme. As time moved forward the tapestry was lifted. Furniture designs moved towards the development of Queen Anne legs, fine carvings, and furniture feet. While styles varied by region and period, these basic parts of furniture design have developed as useful parts of daily living which transcend time and culture.
  • Kitchen Island Legs &...
The kitchen island and the kitchen counter are both hubs of activity within a home. From providing a workspace for the creation of exquisite and elaborate cuisine, to being available for extra seating when there are a few more than usual for dinner, to ensuring a home for kitchen appliances and items that serve as decorative accents; few spaces in the home are as versatile as the countertop space within a kitchen. Beyond that, the kitchen is truly the heart of the home, and the design and decor of the kitchen islands and cabinets speak volumes to the warmth and feel of a home. These spaces provide an opportunity to tie in and emphasize the thematic unity of the home decor. The right island post can make the difference between a good design, and an incredible one; and the right wooden post for your design could be just a click away!
  • Onlays & Appliques
Wood carving represents a rich and deep tradition which has spanned through Ancient Egypt, Chinese dynasties, Catholic and Protestant architecture, traditional and modern Asian art, and remains a popular and respected trade today. Throughout history artists have found that carving a wooden piece of furniture may sometimes present a problem or impossibility; and therefore one must apply a carving on to it. Carved wood onlays can exhibit abundant detail and elegant design; and when applied to a piece, the onlay imparts its beauty.Though there are slight differences, a wood onlay can also be referred to as a wooden applique, medallion, or even a rosette. Carved appliques are generally are relatively flat pieces of wood carved by the artist's inspiration, which remains flat on one side. The design motifs can consist of geometric patterns or organic representations of subjects such as those found on wood rosettes or on a grape onlay. The onlay can then be applied onto another surface such as a piece of furniture, a cabinet, or wall. Applying a wood onlay to furniture or a cabinet can be done simply with the proper adhesive; if the onlay is too heavy an installer can use a type of hanging hardware or even nails. While onlays can vary in size, detail, and design; their artistic impact on the surface is instantly recognizable.
